What it is: Kitty Scramble is a free Facebook game that challenges you to unscramble words all related to a particular theme.
Brain Benefits: attention, visual processing, auditory processing, planning
What I love: This takes word scramble games to the next level. You have to find the words in a particular order, which requires some planning. The words read backward, forward, down and up. But you need to find the words in sequential order for the blocks to get pushed together. For example, if the category is “animals,” you’ll need to click on D-O-G inside the scramble “GIRADOGFFE” in order to get the letters in “GIRAFFE” to reconfigure in order. The levels progress quickly and some of the categories may be too abstract for young minds. So, while “words that begin with B” may feel simple enough, the next level’s category may be “Things that make you cry” with words like “loss,” “book,” and “film” mixed in.
What I would change: I think players should be able to choose their categories to ensure that young players don’t get stuck trying to find words in more difficult themes, such as “Things that require effort.”
